Synopsis
Picking up after the events of Pushpa: The Rise, Pushpa Raj has consolidated his criminal empire and commands deep-rooted power across the Seshachalam forests. Humiliated when he is denied a photograph with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the fiercely proud Pushpa vows revenge by engineering the rise of his own political ally. He simultaneously strikes a massive international deal to sell 2,000 tons of sandalwood worth ₹5,000 crore, setting the stage for the greatest smuggling operation in the story's history. But his ambitions are threatened by SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, internal betrayals, and personal tensions with Srivalli. A post-credits scene teases the franchise's next chapter — Pushpa 3: The Rampage.
Box Office Performance
Pushpa 2: The Rule detonated at the global box office with the force of a cinematic earthquake. It opened to a staggering ₹164 crore net in India and ₹280 crore worldwide gross on Day 1 alone. The film crossed the ₹1,000 crore worldwide mark within just seven days — the fastest any Indian film had ever achieved the milestone. It became the highest-grossing Hindi-dubbed film of all time and sold approximately 6.30 crore tickets in India, the highest since Baahubali 2 (2017).
Theatre Occupancy & OTT Release
The film was released across more than 12,000 screens worldwide, with the Hindi version commanding a remarkable 4,500 screens. Following its thunderous theatrical run, Pushpa 2: The Rule made its digital debut on Netflix on January 30, 2025, available in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Critics & Audience Reviews
Critics largely praised the film's eye-popping action sequences, Allu Arjun's commanding performance, and Fahadh Faasil's scene-stealing antagonist turn. However, detractors pointed to a weak and meandering screenplay and an excessive runtime of over three hours. While the IMDb rating stands at 6.1/10, the film's mass entertainment credentials proved irresistible to audiences worldwide.
