Dan O'Bannon was born on September 30, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. O'Bannon worked primarily as a screenwriter, contributing to several notable films in the science fiction and horror genres. Their most recognized credit is the 1979 screenplay for Alien, a foundational work in the genre. O'Bannon also wrote characters for later entries in the Alien franchise, including Alien Resurrection and Prometheus, as well as Alien: Romulus.
Beyond writing, O'Bannon directed The Resurrected in 1991, expanding their work into film direction. Their filmography reflects a focus on speculative and horror themes, with contributions that extended across multiple decades. O'Bannon died on December 17, 2009.
