Before Calm with Horses, Emmerson held in-house production roles at DMC and was involved in development for other projects, including the Ubisoft-based adaptation Assassin's Creed and the BBC Films-supported Garagistas. His work on Calm with Horses involved sourcing the rights to the story, working with Rowland and Murtagh to shape the script, and securing funding from Film4, the Irish Film Board, and the WRAP Fund.
