In 1999 Elmes held the role of First Assistant "A" Camera on The Matrix. The film’s visual style and technical demands required precise coordination within the camera team, a responsibility that Elmes shared as part of the unit.
Elmes continued in the same capacity on Where the Wild Things Are in 2009, again credited as First Assistant "A" Camera. The following year Elmes worked as First Assistant Camera on Tomorrow, When the War Began.
