Derek Ball

Derek Ball worked in film sound, serving as a production sound mixer and sound recordist on notable productions. In 1977, Ball was the production sound mixer for Star Wars, a role that contributed to the film’s Academy Award win in the Best Sound category. His precise technical contributions helped capture and balance dialogue, effects, and score during production, a process essential to the film’s immersive audio design.

In 1978, Ball served as the sound recordist for The Boys from Brazil, handling the capture of live audio on set. The following year, 1979, Ball worked as the sound mixer for All Quiet on the Western Front, overseeing the final audio mix to ensure clarity and fidelity in post-production. Ball died on July 26, 1988.
