John Bailey was an American camera artist whose work shaped notable films across multiple decades. Born in Moberly, Missouri, on August 10, 1942, Bailey developed a reputation for precise visual storytelling, contributing to both independent and mainstream productions. In 1978, Bailey served as camera operator on Days of Heaven, a film recognized for its striking cinematography. By 1993, Bailey had taken the role of director of photography for Groundhog Day, a comedy that became a cultural touchstone. His later work included the 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, further establishing his versatility behind the camera. In 2014, Bailey returned to the director of photography chair for The Forger, demonstrating sustained engagement with varied material.
