Biography
Maurice Schutz was born in Paris, France, on August 4, 1866. A figure active within the film industry, Schutz appeared in a single recorded cinematic role: The Lord of the Manor in the 1932 film Vampyr. The production, directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, is recognized for its distinctive visual style and atmospheric tension, elements that contributed to its lasting significance in horror cinema.
Schutz’s contribution to Vampyr remains his only documented film credit. The film’s narrative unfolds through dreamlike sequences and stark contrasts, with Schutz’s character serving as a central figure within the estate where much of the story takes place. The performance aligns with the film’s restrained yet unsettling approach to storytelling, a hallmark of Dreyer’s direction.
