He is fondly remembered for his roles in numerous Hammer horror films, although his filmography spans various genres. Ripper's acting career began in the 1950s, with one of his earliest credited roles being that of Forrest in the 1955 film adaptation of Shakespeare's "Richard III". He also portrayed Ernie the Bartender in the 1957 science fiction film "Quatermass 2". Ripper's versatility was evident in his portrayal of The Common Man in the 1963 comedy "What a Crazy World". His career extended into the 1960s, with an uncredited role as Lofthouse - Library Assistant in the 1965 spy thriller "The Spy Who Came In from the Cold".
