Her work has been adapted into more than two dozen films, with several notable ones being based on her novels. The Talented Mr. Ripley, released in 1999, is one such adaptation, featuring her iconic character Tom Ripley. Carol, a 2015 film, and Deep Water, released in 2022, are other cinematic interpretations of her novels. Additionally, The American Friend, a 1977 film, was also based on her work. Highsmith's literary career spanned nearly five decades, during which she wrote 22 novels and numerous short stories.
