Paul Kantner was born on March 17, 1941 in San Francisco, California, USA. Known primarily as a musician, Kantner also appeared on screen in two documentary films. In 1970, Kantner appeared as Self in Gimme Shelter, a concert film documenting the Rolling Stones' Altamont Free Concert. The following year, Kantner returned to the screen in Stamping Ground, again credited as Self, this time representing Jefferson Airplane during a performance captured for the film.
Kantner, also known as Paul Lorin Kantner, was a founding member of the psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane, known for their role in the 1960s counterculture movement. His appearances in these films reflected his public persona as a prominent figure in the era's music scene. Kantner died on January 28, 2016.
