Merrin's first major credit was as a Sound Re-Recording Assistant on the iconic science fiction horror film "Alien" in 1979. He then went on to work as a Sound Mixer on the critically acclaimed British historical drama "Chariots of Fire" in 1981. Merrin's role as a Sound Re-Recording Mixer on Stanley Kubrick's psychological horror film "The Shining" in 1980 further cemented his reputation in the industry.
