He gained recognition for his role as a Bounty Hunter in Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti Western, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (1966). Cerra's imposing presence and ability to convey menace without dialogue made him a memorable addition to the film's ensemble cast. He reprised his role as a menacing figure in Leone's subsequent Western, "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1968), playing one of Frank's gunmen.
