In the 1967 film "Cool Hand Luke," Martin portrayed the role of the prison captain, delivering the iconic line, "What we've got here is...failure to communicate." He reprised his Western role in "The Wild Bunch" (1969) as Coffer. Martin also appeared in "Hannie Caulder" (1971) as Rufus Clemens.
