Xavier Gens

Xavier Gens was born on April 27, 1975 in Dunkerque, France. Gens began working in film as an assistant director trainee, serving in that capacity on the 1997 film Double Team. This role provided early experience in on-set coordination and departmental collaboration during production.

Gens later returned to an assistant director trainee position for the 2000 film The Captive. The work in these roles involved supporting the director and crew in managing daily filming logistics and maintaining continuity across scenes.

In 2018, Gens made the transition to directing with the film Budapest. This shift marked a progression from behind-the-scenes support to leading a production as the primary creative decision-maker.
